3/26 ASK TIBOR
Q: Tibor, Why are you only offering basic dance technique classes?

A: We felt that we were in a time warp watching competitive dancers in Boston today using outdated techniques. In fact, except for Mark Sheldon, who we know works with top English coaches, and a few pro-am dancers, Boston is poorly represented on a national level. Chris and I are in constant touch with many of the worlds leading dancers. We want to offer Boston dancers the opportunity to obtain cutting edge techniques through our classes and master series. We are committed to giving Boston dancers access to current knowledge on a regular basis, at a competitive cost.

3/21 ASK TIBOR
Q: Tibor, When will Chris be teaching dancing in Waltham?

A: What perfect timing. As we noted above in response to popular demand Chris will be teaching a Master Technique Class every Friday beginning March 29. Chris J. fanatics, now you'll really be able to hone your technique. Come for the class, stay for the party! Admission for both class and party $18 member, $20 non-member. Class only $10 member $12 non-member. Party only $10 member $12 non-member.

3/13 ASK TIBOR
Tibor can you clarify about Competition Fees and Friday and Saturday Night Ballroom Dances in Waltham?

We got a lot a feedback on last week's question for Chris regarding competition fees. People still don't quite believe we only charge $55 per entry for competitions in New England and New York. For example, Yankee Classic charges teachers $25 per entry. Anything above that goes directly to the teacher.
Our students paid $15 for admission to Yankee, and $5 for gas for a last years competition in Danvers. So for 10 entries our students can attend a quality competition like Yankee for around $570 dollars! No need to pay 3-6 thousand dollars to enter a regional competition here, just a focus on dancing at SuperShag Mega Dance Complex. There will be no extra charges, studio fees, "management" fees, or "royalty" payments.
Now on to this week's question:
Q: Dear Tibor,Why don't you have Ballroom nights every Saturday?

A: As you know, SuperShag successfully ran a series of dance night Friday's at Veronique in Brookline. As Friday nights don't conflict with any other ballroom events, we saw an opportunity to offer ballroom dancers an option on a night when their are not a lot of options. This lets us keep Saturday's for more specialized dances such as classic ballroom, swing, salsa, and tango.

3/6 ASK TIBOR
Q: Chris, I have heard stories of students paying 4-6 thousand dollars just to enter a ballroom dancing competition. Yet I've noticed you often bring 20 students to ballroom competitions while most teachers only bring 2-3 students. What's the story?
A: Tibor and I developed SuperShag Mega Dance Complex with the philosophy that a competitive student is a happy, engaged, student. You'll never hear stories about our students paying 3-6 thousand dollars or more just to enter a competition in New England or New York! At SuperShag Mega Dance Complex we just say "no"...
No to extra charges
No to studio fees
No to "management" fees
No to "royalty" payments
No to "registration" fees
Take the Yankee Classic for example; we feel the Yankee is one of the best venues for student competition around. The Yankee Classic only charges teachers $25 PER ENTRY. We charge our students $55 and we feel ok about that. If you went to Yankee in Danvers with SuperShag last year, you would have paid:
$550 for 10 ENTRIES
$15 for Admission to the Yankee
$5 for Gas
TOTAL $570 dollars for 10 ENTRIES!
Of course this year will be different; the Yankee is being held in Cambridge this year, so take off 3 bucks for gas!
Best wishes,
Chris

2/27 ASK TIBOR
Q: Tibor, Why aren't there more advanced Ballroom and Latin Dance group classes?

A: Because advanced dancers didn't show up for group classes!
Obviously, we at the studio are always gauging the situation for advanced group
classes so stay tuned. Of course, we will be having Master classes when the
students taking group classes reach that level.
Tibor

2/19 ASK TIBOR
Q: Tibor, You have such an elaborate sound system at SSMDC. What's that all about?

A: We didn't want to run our events like other dance studios, with pre-recorded tapes. Our experience running dance nights at Ryles told us that live DJ's really make a difference! At SuperShag Mega Dance Complex you'll find the most sophisticated sound system around outside of the top clubs on Lansdowne Street.
It's funny, but the technician who installed our system thought we WERE a nightclub, so during our first preview nights some of you may have found the sound a bit overwhelming. We had a sound engineer come back in and re-balance the sound so it suits ballroom dancers. Come by and have a listen!
Best wishes,
Tibor

2/15 ASK TIBOR
Q: Tibor, what's the condition of the ballroom dance floor?

A: When we said SuperShag MDC has 3,000 square feet of pristine dance floor we meant it! On the first two preview nights the floor was a little sticky, as it was brand new. But like the perfect pair of dance shoes -the floor is broken in- so dance with us!
Best wishes,
Tibor

2/8 ASK TIBOR
Q: Tibor, is SSMDC as packed as it was during the first two preview ballroom dance parties?

A: No, those special nights we were at capacity, and we thank all our friends who came out on those nights to wish us well. At our weekly parties there is plenty of room to dance, so come on down!
