Is
SuperShag the best studio in Boston?
It's hard for us to say we are the best, but we invite
you to take a look at our record. Since we opened we've
won more "Top Studio" awards than any other
studio in New England. On a national level, we are definitely
the most recognized studio in the region. Internationally,
we are recognized as a "top studio" as our founders
have been competing at the top of the international dance
business for the last 25 years! Finally, look at our price
structure. You'll see we are able to offer the highest
quality at the lowest prices. Top

Ballroom
- Latin - Dance Parties
Friday’s
are our mega-ballroom dance nights where you'll find a
rotation of the hottest Ballroom and Latin music played
all night. Our music collection covers popular (ranging
from Big Band and rock & roll to Latin, funk, house
and ethnic) and international music. Saturday’s
parties rotate from classic Ballroom, hustle or theme
parties. Use this FAQ sheet to help you get started. We're
looking forward to meeting you!
Q:
What’s the dress code?
A: Dress to dance all night! Dress casually and for comfort!
If you have dance shoes, bring them; otherwise leather-soled
shoes will do. During our Saturday Classic Ballroom Nights,
you'll find people wearing everything from khakis and
dress shirts to sequins and feathers.

Q: Do I need a partner?
A: Come as you are; you won't need a partner to have fun
at our parties. They are very informal; even couples switch
partners for most dances. Feel free to ask anyone you
see for a dance. Our Shaggers are friendly and will happily
share a dance no matter what your level of experience.
They like nothing more than showing you a step or turn,
so just ask! If you are a beginner, be sure to come to
the introductory class at the start of each party; you'll
meet people you can practice with throughout the night.

Q: What’s the age of the people
attending?
A: If you've seen our coverage in the Boston Globe, The
Daily News Tribune or Channel 5’s Chronicle, you'll
know SuperShag’s a hit with every generation! On
any given night you could be dancing East Coast swing
with a “veteran” or dancing salsa with a student
from a university! Cool parents, bright young couples,
sassy seniors -any given night you'll never know what
you'll find. That’s part of the SuperShag energy.

Q: Where do I park?
A: There is plenty of on street and side street parking.
Moody Street is filled with municipal parking lots, free
during the evenings. Coming from Main Street, the lots
are located on the right hand side of the street, every
other block. Spruce, Walnut and Chestnut Street lots are
within blocks from the studio. Top

Q: What if I get stuck during a
party and forget a step?
A: If you forget a step from the pre-party group class,
ask one of the instructors to help you get started. We'll
be happy to take you to the side and get you moving again.

Q: How do I find out more about
your upcoming parties and special events?
A: Ask any instructor or the receptionist. Announcements
are made during parties and there is always a sign-up
sheet to receive our weekly e-mails. Don't forget to visit
www.supershag.com for our monthly calendar. Top

Q: How much of a time commitment
is there?
A: We teach 7 days a week so if you’re looking for
a studio to fit your schedule, look no further! Of course,
as with any new activity the more time you spend on it
the faster you'll see results; so think about how much
time you'd like to spend on dancing and set your expectations
accordingly.
In the beginning we encourage our students to come in
optimally 1-3 times a week (lessons and “practice
time”). However, it this doesn't work we'll work
around your schedule.
We suggest people start with a mixture of private lessons,
group classes and dance parties, for if you develop good
habitsat the start you'll save time and money later. We
pride ourselves on the fact that we offer group classes
with private lesson quality, so if you only take group
classes it will take longer, and you won't receive as
much individual attention, but you will still be receiving
quality instruction, just at a slower pace. Top

Q: Should I practice? If so, how
much?
A: It all depends on your goals and how fast you you'd
like to progress. You may practice at one level for a
special dance at a wedding, or socially, and another level
when participating in a dance competition. Although it
all depends on you, for the best success we recommend
you take notes after your class and plan to spend time
going over your notes in practice. Of course, one of the
best ways to increase your proficiency is to go out dancing,
which is why we have parties at the studio and every Saturday
at Ryles Jazz Club in Cambridge. Top

Intermediate/Advanced
Q: I have heard stories of students
paying 4-6 thousand dollars just to enter a competition.
Yet I've noticed you often bring 20 students to competitions
while most teachers only bring 2-3 students. What's the
story?
A: SuperShag Mega Dance Complex’s philosophy is
that a competitive student is a happy, engaged, student.
You'll never hear stories about our students paying 3-6
thousand dollars or more just to enter a competition in
New England or New York! At SuperShag Mega Dance Complex
we just say "no"...No to extra charges
No to studio fees
No to "management" fees
No to "royalty" payments
No to "registration" fees
SuperShag's cost per dance entry is $55. For instance,
for the Yankee Classic in Cambridge, 10 dances will cost
you $550 and you won't have any hotel or travel expenses.
If we go to Ohio, teachers pay all their own expenses,
the cost per entry is still $ 55 per entry, and students
take care of their own hotel and travel expenses. SuperShag's
travel agent is always on the lookout for the best travel
deals for our students!

General Ballroom Studio Questions
Q: You have such an elaborate sound
system at SSMDC. What's that all about?
A: We didn't want to run our events like other dance studios,
with pre-recorded tapes. Our experience running dance
nights at Ryles told us that live DJs really make a difference!
At SuperShag Mega Dance Complex you'll find the most sophisticated

Street. Top of Page
